We stayed in this hotel for four nights. We had a lovely room overlooking the ocean. No complaints except for the air-conditioning which seemed to have a mind of its own (kept turning on after repeatedly being turned off) and a pretty fogged up bathroom. Breakfast was good, and pretty good value if you hold an Accor card which gives... more

We stayed one night at the Mercure because it was close to the airport and we were flying out the next morning. While we had a fabulous view, the bed was too soft and the service was horrendous. The front desk staff barely made eye contact and the restaurant service was the worst we've had in a long time. The... more

I booked 2 nights with my advantage plus accor Card for my mum and I - We had an oceanview room that overlooked the pool. 2 double beds. The room was spacious and fitted the bill - Only problem was no fan in bathroom and it fogged up quite a bit when showering and could have done with some sort... more

Stayed in this Hotel in late January. The location is a little along the Esplanade but it is a nice 20 minute walk along to the centre of town, there is a nice cafe selling good Fish and Chips on the way. We did try the Hotel Minibus a couple of times but always seem to miss it. I had... more

We spent 1 night here before going out on our overnight reef trip and 1 when we returned before flying out. It is a good enough hotel for such purposes but I wouldn't go there as a destination. Room was ok but air conditioning ineffective and there was no bathroom fan as others have mentioned. Front desk staff very helpful.... more

We stayed at the Mercure Harbourside, Cairns for 10 nights in July ’07, as a base for exploring Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef as part of our around-the-world trip. The hotel is about 15 minutes taxi ride from the airport. When we arrived at the hotel, check-in was prompt and easy and we then headed to our room. The... more

Booked hotel counting on using their shuttle bus into town. As it happened, the bus was always full (only seats 9 and we are a family of 7 people) and only ran once every hour. As the hotel was full, we never had the opportunity to get a ride in the bus - we always walked to and from town.... more

Thankyou very much for your feedback. You are correct, our complimentary courtesy bus is a nine seater. It does the journey to the city centre, of just over a kilometre ever hour. It is surprising to hear that you were unable to catch the bus, even given your group size. Our guests regularly comment on how flexible our team are...

I visit Cairns 1-2 times per year for business reasons, along with many other Asia-Pacific destinations. I moved to the Mercure from another hotel in the CBD that was clearly substandard. The Mercure Harborside wasn't much better. Despite being the off-season, staff always seem "too busy" to actually deal with the guests. Rooms were musty and dingy. For some reason... more

Dear JimmyMc, I appreciate your feedback and thankyou for taking the time to comment. Your comments though are very disappointing and not typical of the majority of guest experiences here. On most occasions our staff receive amazing praise from our customers. We believe that they are amongst Cairns' best so it surprises me to see your negative observation. Our hotel...

This was an excellent, well valued hotel in Cairns. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious with a beautiful balcony and view. We booked the hotel with breakfast and it was very good. A good selection of both hot and cold foods. We also ate dinner at the hotel resturant one evening and the food... more

Dear Sailorann, Thankyou very much for your kind words. We are proud of our staff, in particular our restaurant team. We are a bit biased but believe we have some of the best food and service on offer in the region. If you are ever travelling this way again, please let me know and we'll see that you are treated...

The hotel was nice, but very basic. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the hotel was further away from the center of the esplanade than I expected.. you do have a nice view of the ocean, but you are about a 20-30 min walk from the action. more

Thanks very much for your feedback. You are right we are 1.4km from the CBD, but many of our guests see that as an advantage. With our complimentary courtesy bus you are able to conveniently access the city, without having to put up with the noise and bustle. We also don't have other buildings to get in the way of...
