We were very excited when we arrived in Portsmouth because it's a great town. However, we were very disappointed with the inn - in spite of it's wonderful location. Not only was the staff lacking in cordiality but the inn itself was so unappealing. We found the rooms to be decorated in what seemed to be poor garage sale finds... more

I was nervous about an inn in the middle of the city, but this place was amazing! Clean! Friendly! The room was great. Not cheesy (some Inns are a little too... 'charming'). Tons of books/magazines/menus on the area. Free parking across the street. Snacks and breakfast available in a cute little nook. Walk outside right to the water and city.... more

We stayed here for a night during our visit to Portsmouth and while the location is great (just a few steps from the bustling downtown area where there are tons of cute shops), the inn itself is certainly not stellar. The room is very small with a dingey decor. The bed was very uncomfortable with creaking frames. The walls are... more

We stayed at the Bow Street Inn for 1 night in October for our anniversary. The location can't be beat. It was literally a two minute walk to all the restaurants and shops. We found the innkeepers to be very pleasant and helpful. The price was very reasonable and we liked the fact that they allowed us to book just... more

bow street inn was sterile and boring. rooms lacked any imagination or perks. however, for location in portsmouth this place is it. portsmouth is a great town with great history, good food and good nightlife. i highly recommend a visit to portsmouth. if location is the thing you look for in accomodations this place puts you in the middle of... more

Bow Street Inn was a second choice for us. The rooms were comfortable but had the feel of being at your grandmother's or aunt's house. The furnishings are older but not antique, the carpets have seen better days but the room seemed clean over all. We liked the location with the exception of parking. Due to an event at the... more

The Bow Street Inn is like an expensive hostel. The location is great, and the rates are slightly cheaper than other area hotels. However, while the service is not bad per se, it is nonexistent. You will only see the owners/staff when they are taking your money, or you are returning your keys, which you'd better have with you, because... more

Joan and Art are geat folks that operate a great place to stay in the heart of downtown Portsmouth. Everything is within walking distance. The charm of the city is only minutes from the door. Generally parking is a bit of an issue in downtown Portsmouth and parking with the Bow Street Inn is no exception however; the innkeepers have... more

Bow Street Inn is a great choice if you want to be walking distance to all that downtown Portsmouth has to offer (Prescott Park, Strawberry Banke, Market Square, local theater, shops, restaurants, bars, etc.) The Inn has some rooms with harbor view, but not totally necessary if you want to save a few bucks since a view of the harbor... more
