The hostel is great value for money with complimentary breakfast daily and dinner twice a week. Located next to Pike Street Market, it is very convenient and easy to navigate. Relatively safe neighbourhood. Only setback is that the wall is rather thin and if the room is next to the toliet, you have to bear with the noise of people... more

As a couple, the whole 'double beds in dorms' experience was interesting. We stayed in what was basically a 10 bed dorm with double bunks, yet retained some privacy by using curtains surrounding each bed. Friendly atmosphere, the organised activities, free breakfasts (waffles!) and free dinner every second night make it a very economical stay for the traveller on a... more

I've stayed at GT many, many times over the years and while there have been occasional stumbles, my experiences here were by far better than almost anywhere. The staff is usually knowledgeable (this knowledge seems to taper off during the day...) and always friendly. Rooms are cleaned daily, though your roommates will have a profound affect on appearance and smell.... more

The Green Tortoise can't be beat with its outstanding prices and location. The staff really makes you feel at home and are friendly and courteous. They also distribute information on how to get to various attractions and landmarks, a very valuable asset! Also, there are constant events going on within the hostel, e.g. open-mic night, bar crawls, group tours, etc.... more

We were travelling as a group of 4 50ish women friends and booked the Green Tortoise as our usual hotel was full. We had a blast. You couldn't ask for a better location, the staff were friendly and accommodating, the room was great and the free breakfast was amazing - eggs, toast, waffles, fresh fruit, brownies, coffee and tea. You... more

I stayed here for 3 nights in a private room with my travelling friends and have to say its definately the best hostel I have ever stayed in. The room was very clean and each bed had its own fan and light. The location is amazing, the Seattle market is directly opposite and just a short walk into town. The... more

We booked into a private room at the Green Tortoise for two nights - a Friday and a Saturday. The location is fantastic - directly opposite Pike Market. We arrived early on the bus from Vancouver - around 9.30am. We were told that the room they wanted to put us in was not ready but that they did have a... more

This funky hostel was indeed funky, literally, but cool. It was my first time staying in a USA hostel and I was pleasantly surprised. As expected, there were more amenities at a higher price. There were at least 7 PCs, including Apples with free internet access, do-it-yourself waffles for breakfast, plenty of toilet paper in the bathrooms, and THE best... more

This is among the very BEST hostels I have stayed in. Don't pay any attention to the bizarre review by "Jessi9260"; she clearly doesn't understand the functional and practical differences between a hotel and a hostel. I'm in my mid-30's, and have no interest in partying; when I get back to the hostel at night, I just want to sleep.... more

I don't normally stay at hostels, however, if you like a communal atmosphere, a young crowd, and a central location this is a great place. I stayed just one night (because of a hotel mixup) in a four bunk room. The place was relatively clean, each bunk bed has these little curtains so that you had some privacy. and its... more
