Payless car rental |
|
It depends who you talk to. I have used them, but not in Orlando. I found their cars to be slightly less nice than say avis or a major company. Nothing wrong per se', but just a year or two older for example. I believe each is independently operated, so I dont think a comparision between my experience with customer service and yours will be the same. I have seen their mini-buses in Orlando, and know they are not a fly by night operation. In my mind the question in piece of mind, if you are a person that can handle a little uncertainity, then go with them, if you are like me, stick with a name you know and trust. I always use Alamo, grab the enterntainment book coupon save the 15 bucks, and usuallly the price is the same as the smaller companies.

I've booked with Payless as well for our upcoming trip. 1) I read the terms of the rental carefully since they seem to be so much cheaper than everyone else. There was a paragraph in there that when renting you need to prove that you have your own car insurance. Not a problem for me since I do have that, and Maryland law allows me to transfer my collision coverage to the rental vehicle so I dont have to buy CDW. That's why they are so cheap. With the other companies, they are providing insurance with the car. Iv'e had to do the same thing when doing a local rental from Enterprise 2) Sign up for the Payless Perks, you get an automatic 5% discount on your rental 3) The instructions say to use the courtesy phone in the baggage claim area to call for a pickup. I believe most of the others either are in the garage or have shuttle buses running constantly. qsman

Oops, that clause was in the foreign renters section. They do provide basic liability coverage like everyone else.

They're a small company, based in Clearwater -- but they've been around for close to 20 years. I've not rented from them myself (hey..I live here!) but know several who have, and haven't heard anything bad about them.

THEY ARE DISORGANIZED AND RUDE Last year I rented from them in orlando, they only had 2 small shuttles running between the airport and they were very crowded, the van I rented was junk, had more shakes and rattles than elvis! they were cheaper than the others but the service and quality also goes down with the price

they had lots of hidden costs when we got the final bill. extra bucks to cover any car ins. deductable, extra this extra that. they wont tell you any of this until you have waited a very long time in the florida sun for their shuttle van and then in a very long slow line at their car counter. BY THEN YOU ARE SO EXHAUSTED; YOU WILL PAY ANYTHING TO GET THE HECK ON THE ROAD ALREADY. everyone there was so slow and rude. by the time all was said and done it added up to more than many other car rentals. DONT USE THEM; ITS NOT WORTH THE AGGRAVATON.

I used payless a couple of years ago in Orlando and had a very bad experience. Consequently, I will not use them again. I booked an economy car and when I got there, they gave me two options - take a van for the price I booked, or pay extra to upgrade to a mid-size car. I was traveling solo and certainly didn't want to drive a bulky van with bad gas mileage. Consequently, I upgraded and had to end up paying more. Then when I got out to the car and started to leave, the lady at the exit booth told me that they had forgotten to give me something (don't remember exactly what it was) and that I needed to go back in and get it. Consequently, I had to go back in and stand in line for another 15 minutes or so. The customer service, as you can see, was terrible. They simply had no intention of making customers happy. Since I booked with travelocity, I got them to try to help with the situation after I got home. Travelocity (after the second email) finally decided to help me out, and got Payless to refund the extra money that I had to pay for the upgrade. And to be fair, a Payless supervisor did send me a letter of apology. However, the whole experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. I bet that you can find a better company at the same price as Payless. Just go to mousesavers.com and read their rental car section. It's very informative and they give you promotion codes that will get you lower rates. Dollar's rates are sometimes reduced drastically by using the promotion codes listed on the mousesavers site. They're located right in the airport, which is a big plus. I thought they were a tad rigid and unfriendly, but they are very efficient and get you in and out in a hurry. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.
