We just came back from the Otesaga (stayed June 16th) as a Father's Day present for my husband. What a relaxing place! We arrived early, they checked us in, and gave us a room upgrade (2 bedroom). We have 3 children and the additional space was nice. The service was terrific and everyone was so pleasant. We did not select the dinner/breakfast package and choose just the breakfast package. We sat outside on the veranda overlooking the lake in the morning. The breakfast was amazing. There is a pool on the grounds (which overlooks the beautiful lake). We plan to make the Otesaga a Fathers Day tradition! Overall, service was top-notch!

We spent four days in May 2007 at the Otesaga Resort as part of a group of vintage car drivers. The Otesaga is in a wonderful setting at the south end of Otsego Lake. The rooms are comfortable though not huge. The bed was very good and excellent toiletries were provided. The staff was unfailingly courteous and helpful. Unfortunately we were not able to obtain a lake view room. Ours was on the third floor overlooking the entrance. Noise was not a problem, but the lights for the entrance portico are very bright and consequently one had to have the room's shade down at night. The reception tried to find a different room for us, but the hotel was fully booked. Others in our group reported dissatisfaction with rooms on the fourth floor.

The hotel dining room and grill room both served acceptable, though not outstanding food, with the exception of breakfast which was excellent. The wine list is fairly limited.

The hotel offers various dining plans. I would recommend taking a plan that only includes breakfast. We found some interesting restaurants in Cooperstown.

Cooperstown is very interesting to visit, whether or not you are a baseball fan. There is much to do beyond the baseball Hall of Fame, especially in the summer when the Glimmerglass Opera is performing. The countrside around Cooperstown is gorgeous.

We had a satisfactory experience and will certainly return, though only when we can get a lake view room.

My wife, son, and I arrived in Cooperstown, N.Y. on 5/24/07 with no advance reservations. We stopped at the Information Center in town and they called the 3 Hotels that we had brochures for. After being quoted a rate of $219 per night for a 2 bedroom suite, we visited the hotel and could not have been happier. We stayed for 2 nights and could have stayed for at least a week. The hotel has all the charm and ambience of an Old World Hotel. It is located overlooking Lake Otesaga. Heated outdoor pool, rocking chairs on the porch, golf course, great restaurants, 1:00 p.m. check out, bath robes, 10 minute walk to the Hall of Fame, wonderful staff, I could go on and on. One of the nicest hotels we have stayed at in a very long time. Hotels like this simply are not being built anymore. If you have the opportunity to visit Cooperstown, this is the place to stay.

My family and I visited the Otesaga in Novemebr for three nights. The room was beautiful with gorgeous lake views. The hotel has tons of oldworld charm in it archetecture and furnishings. And being in cooperstown with the Baseball Hall of Fame is a blast. But, unfortunately the staff and management of the hotel are not customer focused. We have young children, aged from 4 to 10, who are fairly well behaved and respectful. The staff of this hotel is not child friendly - in fact they seem to go our of their way to be rude, arogant, and disrepectful to families. We felt it ourselves, but witnessed it most dramatically with the way other families were treated by the waiters and staff of this hotel. At breakfast the family next to us had a young child no more than 3 years old who got up out of her chair to talk to her mother - the waitress quickly and rudely told the mother that if the child could not stay in her seat they would have to leave the dining room. Our children caught on fast and played along just fine - but there was a constant feeling of being watched and judged while eating breakfast and dinner that was very annoying. The majority of the staff just did not seem appropriate for a family hotel - in fact some of them seemed a little creepy.

If you are travelling without children you will probably have a wonderful time - as long as you remember to put your napkin on your lap - because they will remind you. The waiter/waitress staff will listen in on your dinner conversation regularly and feel perfectly at ease to cut in with a story or two about whatever you happen to be talking about., or to gossip about other guests sitting in the dining room. Very charming!

My husband and I try to stay at the Otesaga once a year. We have come to know the delightful staff, especially Josie in the dining room. The service is superb, the dining room spectacular and the property amazingly beautiful. The rooms are spacious and ever so comfortable with all amenties. Try to book one facing the gorgeous lake on the third floor. One year it rained all 3 days of our visit, but fear not, as they have a brand new gym and the wrap around porch facing the lake is perfect to hear the rain and read. Another right of passage is renting a pontoon boat (the hotel packs you a picnic lunch) for the day and you can float for hours and enjoy the pristine views. It's fun to walk into town, but we find it too busy for us (Baseball Hall of Fame) and not our cup of tea. That is why the Otesaga is perfect because it is like going back in time and you have everything under one glorious roof.

    • Tips/Secrets: — Call ahead to make sure it is not baseball hall of fame weekend.
