I chose the best room in the house since this was a trip to celebrate my husband's birthday. We arrived after 8pm so we picked up our key left for us in the foyer and a note that stated our room had separate outdoor access, but a porch light would be on. It took us several minutes in darkness and rain to finally find the room, since the porch light was NOT on. The room was clean, but shutters on the windows provided limited privacy. There is very little soundproofing, so we could easily hear the people talking in the next room. The next day we wanted to use the jacuzzi and found there was no hot water. The owners were not present to oversee things and apparently forgot to call for an oil delivery. The staff apologized (they were all very nice), but there was no attempt to compensate us for the inconvenience. I don't think guests should have to demand compensation. The breakfast was not nearly comparable to other inns I've visited. I'm not a fussy eater, but the staff needs to work on balancing the breakfast to make it more satisfying. The first morning both cheesy eggs and cheesy potatoes were served, making the overall dish too rich. The second day, a dehydrated, tasteless fruit cup, lemon squares, and cinnamon raisin "French toast" made the breakfast much too sweet. The inn is within easy walking distance to the Baseball Hall of Fame, but there are others even closer. At $240 a night plus tax (off-season rate at that!), I expected more. Also, the inn would do well with adding simple amenities in the room such as bottled water and mints that are inexpensive extras that help make guests feel pampered. I left feeling "taken" instead.
