The claim that staying at the Cooperstown Bed & Breakfast is "like living in a bakery" is by no means an exaggeration! In fact, it's even better than most bakeries we've experienced---no stale, end-of-the-day croissants or hard-as-a-rock cookies here. We truly couldn't believe how Linda managed to keep so many delicious baked goods constantly coming. And we're not just talking brownies and cookies (although both were delicious, especially the incredibly rich and gooey brownies)... Elegantly braided danishes (the cheese one was exquisite), homemade doughnuts dusted with cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar, decadent chocolate-chip scones, and much more. Anyone with a sweet tooth will certainly be in heaven. But for those who favor savory offerings, there's a bounty of scrumptious options in that category as well: a daily breakfast quiche or casserole, bacon or sausage, your choice of toast, and John's delicious eggs made to order (the most delicious farm-fresh eggs you can imagine). Pancakes or french toast are also included in the breakfast spread. Although we've overindulged at many a bed and breakfast, we outdid ourselves here because everything was just so incredibly tasty and fresh. The breakfasts and baked goods (which are available at all times---perfect for an afternoon snack or an evening treat) alone make a stay at this B&B truly exceptional.
On top of the extremely memorable food, John and Linda are the kindest and most caring hosts imaginable, providing lots of good advice on the area attractions and restaurants, as well as just conversing with guests and making them feel totally at home. You can tell that they really care about each and every guest and are interested in their lives. And in case you didn't already feel like part of their family, you surely will when Linda sends you off with a hug and kiss and a plate of freshly baked pastries (which, by the way, still tasted delicious several days later and after sitting in a hot car all day)!
The rooms are extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated with beautiful antiques. Our room was very cheery, with a wonderful bed and a spacious bathroom. We also enjoyed relaxing on the front porch and the second-floor balcony. There is a trolley stop right in front of the B&B, but it's just a short walk to Main Street, and it's very pleasant. You'll be stopping to take pictures of the beautiful Victorian homes and gardens along the way. The location is perfect for exploring the quaint town of Cooperstown, visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame, and taking in gorgeous Lake Otsego (we recommend a tour of the lake aboard the Glimmerglass Queen). Just leave your car in the spacious lot behind the B&B. We only had to use ours to get to the area breweries (Ommegang and Cooperstown Brewing Company) and the Fly Creek Cider Mill (all recommended). It's particularly nice to be able to walk to all of the restaurants---no need for a designated driver! Be sure to make dinner reservations at Alex & Ika for a unique culinary experience (and great sangria), and don't miss Danny's Market at lunch (their homemade breads are out of this world, and the sandwiches are HUGE).
Despite the Memorial Day weekend traffic hassles we faced getting to and from Cooperstown, we had a wonderful stay. It is a lovely little town (the perfect escape from city life) with delightfully friendly people and so many terrific sites and activities to take in. And one couldn't possibly ask for better accommodations than the Cooperstown Bed & Breakfast---there are loads of B&Bs in this town, but there's obviously a reason why the Cooperstown B&B is #1! We will certainly be back!
P.S. A plus for families is that, unlike many B&Bs, the Cooperstown B&B allows children. They also have several adorable cocker spaniels that are very sweet and good with little kids.
