Just returned from 3 nights at the Lake 'N Pines and I would recommend canceling your stay if you are booked. The motel is beyond rustic! First, our two bedroom queen w/ a lake view contained many bugs and a noxious odor. One of the beds in the room had BUGS on it! Second, the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The springs of the mattresses simply did not work! The beds need to be REPLACED. Third, the lake could be seen if I twisted my neck left while looking out he window. I adressed my concerns with the front desk and I was told to fill out the customer questionnaire in the room. BTW the front office closes at 9PM. Breakfast is located down two steep hills and the donuts and bagels are left in plastic containers over night. I did not see the rat traps in the pool bathroom but if I had I would have packed up. Also the brochure states free access to paddle boats & row boats. The motel has 1 of each. The towels are all the size of hand towels so please bring your own. Cooperstown is beautiful & the Baseball Hall of Fame is definitely worth the trip.

“A Fisherman's Delight”

We read the reviews and thought we'd give this place a shot. Well, its great for fisherman! Right on the lake, beautiful view, easy access to the water, everything a fisherman likes. Yet, we're not fisherman :) We're a small family looking for a family friendly place to stay. Everyone was nice and again a great location but there were a few problems. First, I'd rather sleep on the floor or the road before I would sleep on those beds! They were so hard, I contemplated doing just that. Also, there wasn't a curtain on the bathroom window (which was a window to the parking lot). The glass was frosted but the shadows didn't leave much to the imagination. Lastly, the pool.... The water was nice, you could smell the clorine so I know it was clean, but hey, so much water, at some point you've gotta go to the bathroom. So to my surprise, we apparently shared the pool house bathroom with rats! Yep, rats! There were traps and *&^( on the floor - my son and I ran outta there so fast, it was soooo gross.

OK, enough about that. The breakfast was really nice and the coffee was great! The people were friendly and the little game room was fun. The walk down the private pier was so beautiful and great for sitting and looking at the lake. Every place has its pro's and con's and I couldn't help thinking about my grandfather ,who was a professional fisherman when he was alive, the entire time I was there. Hence the subject "A Fisherman's Delight." I say the place was OK, but hubby dear is neutral because you get what you pay for, and this place is a bargain.

Our trip was just a leisurely weekend away, stayed Saturday night. The reception person was courteous and to the point, but not much small talk, which is fine with me. There was an older man walking around, who I assume was the owner and he was very quick with a hello when he saw you. We had asked for one of the balcony rooms ($165). The room was good size, clean and cool (very humid day when we arrived). The balcony was small. It was as wide as the room, but was about 4 ft deep with 2 plastic chairs. The bathroom was clean and in good shape, but basic. There were the usual soaps, lotions and shampoo. We had no "problems", only irritations - no toilet paper in the holder (had to get it out of the vanity), no tissues, towels were thin and very rough, the plastic chairs on the balcony were covered with pollen (should have been wiped down), the air conditioner really belted out the cold air which became too much after a while but when turned down it took a long time to cycle on and off, there doesn't appear to be any "sandy beach" as advertised on the website (all we saw was crushed stone). It could be noisy for rooms around the pool with a lot of kids around. A decent place to stay, but we didn't feel at the summer season rate, more like the off season rate. Although, it is the Cooperstown area and right on the lake.

“Rustic spot brings back the good old days”

Stayed two nights in the two-bedroom cottage with lake views. Cottage is old and reminded me of summers with Grandma in the Adirondacks. However, it was very, very clean. Bathroom was spotless with plenty of towels. The first place I check in this age of bedbugs is the bedroom. The mattresses were brand new. Sheets and comforters were spotless and fresh smelling. I understand why they do it, but wish they’d lose the plastic sheet under the fitted sheet. It made noise and made me feel clammy. The kitchen was old but had every tool you’d need to cook a meal. Great cable tv. The sun porch overlooking the lake was an ideal spot to enjoy your morning coffee.

Breakfast was fine – bagels, danish, cereal, and coffee. My kids loved the pool. It smelled too much like bleach than chlorine for my liking. In fact, it took a few days for the smell to leave their skin and hair despite showering after the pool and each day after.

Staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. It is obvious that they work hard to maintain this lovely spot. Don't expect the Marriott, but a quaint, rustic, country spot where there is plenty of room for the kids to explore, both inside and out.

What I loved most was the ten-minute drive into Cooperstown. The two-lane road along the lake is beautiful and made me feel like I was really in the country. Even the cloudy and rainy weekend weather didn't put a damper on our good time and the view was still beautiful.

Would definitely return here in the future. Enjoy your stay.
