I booked my weekend at the Best Western for my annual baseball game at Doubleday Field when I was told by friends that the Holiday Inn Express, which is next door, was actually cheaper. I cancelled my reservation online prior to getting charged a $25 fee and enjoyed my weekend at the Holiday Inn and at Cooperstown.

To my surprise, I had a $25 charge on my credit card from Best Western for late cancellation, even though my confirmation clearly states there is no fee unless cancelled post-cancel policy date. I spoke to Best Western customer relations who told me that each hotel has its own cancellation policy, regardless of what the confirmation says. I am working with my credit card company now to dispute the charge.

So, bottom line, even though I did not stay at the Best Western, I recommend that you avoid it and stay at the Holiday Inn Express.

We stayed there the week before the Dreams Park crowds arrive. It wasn't a bad deal. The room was clean; the internet access worked. It's not fancy, but the price was reasonable ( a little over $100). There's a good coffee shop/lunch place in the shopping center.

I just returned from a visit to Cooperstown over the Memorial Day weekend, staying at this hotel for 2 nights. I was actually quite pleased, contrary to some of the reviews here. I chose the hotel because I have 3 children and didn't want to pay for 2 rooms, so I looked for a hotel with 2 queen beds and a sofa bed in one room. This hotel fit the bill quite nicely. I booked the hotel on hotels.com, then looked at this site and got nervous -- but I didn't see any of the problems noted in other reviews -- no mold in the tub or smoke smell. In fact, the hotel has a $450 fine if you are caught smoking in a non-smoking room. The staff was very nice, and even kept the pool open later than the posted 9pm closing time to allow my kids to swim longer. Granted the breakfast was nothing to write home about, but it was fine for us -- juice, cereal, frozen waffles, danish. It's an easy drive into town, and you are close to a grocery store if you need some incidentals. It wasn't cheap - $169 per night before tax, but other alternatives in the area aren't cheap either. Overall I was very happy with the experience.

I checked out this hotel in November 2004 (site visit) for our group. I read the reviews that are posted at this web site and was worried about our group staying there. I worried for no reason. The staff on 4-12 was wonderful! The rooms were clean and the hotel was outstanding!We stayed in the main lodge. Our group throughly enjoyed the hotel and staff.
We found the hotel clean, staff friendly and helpful.
I had read that the steak restaurant next door was not good but our group split up and some folks did eat at the steak restaurant and said it was good but they got so much food that they wished they had split an entree.
We really enjoyed the choices of walking to McDonald's, a Chinese restaurant, a steak house and a place (grocery store) to buy snacks.
I would recommend this hotel to any group. BTidwell
