My girlfriend and I just had a two night stay at the Hickory Grove Inn

Innkeepers Matt and Marie are great hosts and were on top of everything --without being intrusive.

We took advantage of the lakeside privileges the Inn has, which includes a cute beach area with lounge chairs etc... very tranquil and romantic setting.

The inn has a great little bar area where guests 'bring their own' -- hang out watch TV (watched Agassi lose :( in US Open final) and play darts.

The porch has a partial view of the lake and is great place to kick back with a book and relax.

The room and breakfast were ordinary but well worth the very affordable price (75 per night).

“The good news and the bad news”

The innkeeper Marie is friendly and helpful, and the bed was comfortable. That was the good news. The bad news was that our bathroom was unfinished and partially unpainted; the paint on the ceiling above our bed was chipped and looked as if it might fall on us; our bed was never made nor our room or bathroom cleaned during our entire two-night three-day stay; the carpet was grungy; and the breakfast food was left on a serving table in plastic bags and boxes. The coffee was so weak it looked like tea. The entrance to the house was dirty and unswept, and the paving stones on the walk were broken. The house needs a lot of work, and the breakfast could easily be improved.

“A warm reception on a snowy eve”

The Inn at Hickory Grove is a work in progress, at least the building is. The innkeepers, however are a work complete. A cheery fire in the drawing room and a wonderful hearty breakfast await the road weary traveler. And then, of course, there is the charming Miss Lily who will fill all the empty little niches in your heart with fond memories of children or grandchildren or just a brief connection with those carefree days of youth itself. The Inn at Hickory Grove is a connection to some earlier day... you haven't experienced Cooperstown without staying there.

For our anniversary, we decided to visit Cooperstown, NY with two other couples. Our stay at the Inn at Hickory Grove was a perfect choice, a place to be together with good company and enjoy a cozy, relaxing weekend. The inn was charming, filled with interesting history and the owners were kind enough to allow us to freely use the game room and curl up with books and a glass of wine near a warming fireplace. The guys enjoyed the bar, playing darts and acting silly. The house has a wonderful wrap around porch with a stunning view of Ostego Lake. Cooperstown itself, reminded me of a place right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. We took in the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Farmer's Museum, and visited various shops and had lunch in a small cafe where I enjoyed the best Crab and Lobster Bisque I've ever tasted. I hope to return one day, to visit the many antique shops I didn't have time for. The hospitality and wonderful country breakfasts will take me back to the Inn at Hickory Grove. The owners, Matt, Marie and their sweet little daughter Lillie made our stay comfortable and memorable.

“Home Is Where the Heart Is”

Hickory Grove Inn Bed and Breakfast

Oct 21, 2004

The feeling of home, warmth and heart is what you'll find at the Hickory Grove Inn Bed and Breakfast in Coopertown, N.Y. Currently under some renovation, this B&B with its rustic charm provides an atmosphere of a more calm and peaceful time. Inn Keepers, Matt and Marie go out of their way to make sure your stay is most enjoyable. Mornings start with a full home made country breakfast. Be sure to ask for his famous homestyle potatoes. Daughter, Lily, will keep you entertained and her smile will stay with you long after you leave.
A visit to remember and place to visit again.
