My wife and I along with another couple stayed in the two bedroom suite on the second floor for the weekend. We loved our experience at August Lodge.

The location is great. The lodge is 10 minutes from Cooperstown in a very quiet area up on a hill. The views are amazing and the lodge itself is beautiful and fits in nice with the landscape. The rooms are decorated very nice and were very spacious. Every room has a balcony with a beautiful view of the countryside.

Everyone working at the lodge was very nice. The breakfast was simple, but a very nice touch. Ask about area restaurants, they know a lot of great places. The have a nice little pool, hot tub and game room that is kept up quite nice.

One of the best things is how new the lodge is and how clean they keep the property and rooms. Everything is spotless and the furniture looks brand new. There is a small kitchen in each room.

I only have two complaints: the satellite reception is terrible and they don't even get any of the major channels, and the 10 a.m. check out policy is a bit crazy (11 a.m. is more reasonable). Other than that, we loved our stay and would not look anywhere else when visiting Cooperstown.

“loved the august lodge”

August Lodge

What a wonderful place to stay. Up on top of a mountain with breathtaking views. The lodge was a pleasant surprise. I'm one of those very picky people when it comes to where we stay and I would stay here again. Very clean with a rustic charm. Rooms were a nice size, beds were very comfortable. The owners made a bon fire at night and the kids made smores and toasted marshmellows.
only 5 miles from the baseball hall of fame.

“Awesome Hospitality”

August Lodge

May 30, 2008

From the moment we opened the front door and was greeted by Jamie the hostess, to the day we left and said our good-byes to Phil we were constantly amazed by the wonderful hospitality. Our every desire was met and exceeded here at the lodge. The view was beautiful, the pool was warm and inviting and rooms were large and very clean. We could ask for anything more. See you all soon.

“August Lodge is delightful”

I stayed at the August Lodge twice this summer. It reminds me of a beautiful place I once stayed at in southern France. The most spectacular aspect of the inn is the view. It's absolutely breathtaking. The rooms are styled uniquely with lovely touches everywhere--like chair rails that match the picture frames. It was very nice to have a full kitchen. There are porches outside the rooms to enjoy the view. The pool and hot tub were delightful and I enjoyed a massage in their spa. There are even grills for barbecueing. All the young people who work there were enthusiastic and friendly and the hosts could not have been more helpful and full of local information. The breakfast was fresh fruit and pastries which I enjoyed in a screened porch room over looking the mountain view. If you prefer, you can make up a little basket with breakfast and take it back to your room. Even though this is a full service, professional place, there's a homey feeling that's very nice. It's nothing like staying in those plastic chain hotels. I recommend August Lodge whole
heartedly.

Although this is a new lodge and has a lot of competition with the various bed & breakfasts in Cooperstown, it by far surpassed my expectations and is one of the best and most friendly places I have ever stayed. The owners were extremely warm and made us feel very welcome, and they were very knowledgeable about the city and took the time to tell us the best places to visit during our stay. The property is so beautiful - only 10 minutes from the main town area of Cooperstown but yet so quiet and peaceful. The rooms are beautiful and make you feel right at home, and the furniture (handcrafted by a Vermont craftsman) is gorgeously unique. This would be a wonderful vacation spot in the summer, as there's a huge firepit with barbecues and beautiful private porches off your room where you can sit and relax. There is also a beautiful sun porch off the main entrance where you can enjoy amazing views and sit and have coffee/tea. Even though I was there in the fall and it was pouring rain when we arrived, it was still beautiful! It would be a great honeymoon spot as well!

I am currently a travel and tourism student at NYU, and throughout my coursework I have studied effective marketing for destinations and ultimate ideals of customer service. In my opinion, August Lodge has the entire package - they have great, friendly service with exceptional accomodations and they are reasonably priced, particularly for the spectacular views you get of the entire Catskill Mountain area. Seeing the fall foliage from atop their hill was absolutely breathtaking.

The only thing I would recommend to them is doing a little more advertising and put more prominent signage up along the main roads - spread the word about your great undiscovered charming place!

In short, I would definitely recommend this lodge to anyone visiting the Cooperstown area. It is well worth the 10 minute drive out of town and it's a quaint, beautiful spot. We loved it!
