We booked this hotel directly via phone for the weekend of June 9th and 10th (Sat-Sun nights). It was somewhat of a splurge for our family during a weekend trip to Columbus. We didn't want any surprises except good ones. Thus we paid extra to stay at Embassy Suites.
Everything appeared nice enough as we arrived. The hotel is visible from the beltway and is conveniently located within a business park area just off the exit.
We were able to check in early on Saturday (2PM).
However, to our surprise, the atrium/lobby area was under renovation and was mostly tented off like some third world crisis center. There was extremely loud compressor or jackhammer noises coming from within the tent. The staff apologized for the inconvenience but offered no compensation or adjustment.
Our room was nice, roomy and clean.
Sunday morning was a mad scramble for the free buffet breakfast as the hotel was full with youth soccer teams and people in for the OSU graduation. The line for breakfast stayed backed down a hallway. We settled for a lessor version of the buffet in a banquet room to the side.
Monday's breakfast was MUCH nicer as most of the crowd had cleared out Sunday afternoon.
In conclusion, we were disappointed with Embassy Suites for not disclosing that the hotel was under renovations. If your going to charge 3-4 star prices, then offer 3-4 star environments. If you can't offer environment because of necessary renovations, then maybe it's necessary to ADJUST your prices until renovations are complete. At the very least please disclose the situation so the customer can decide for themselves. Waiting until check-in is unreasonable to find alternatives. I expected more from Embassy Suites.
Finally to be fair, I was given a # to contact the general mgr. about an adjustment request of which I haven't pursued yet.
