Just stayed one night last week and we can see why people like this place - we did too. Would recommend you bring your ear plugs however as the sound proofing between the rooms is pretty much non-existent and if your neigbours like to talk or keep the TV on late then you will also be getting the benefit! But there is lots to like about the Humphrey's with it's a great location (away from Downtown and very handy for the airport); good facilities; slightly dated but fun tropical look, and easy on-site parking ($10 per night at time of writing).

Overall, we were happy with our stay here and would return, especially given the that price on Expedia was pretty reasonable compared to the very expensive alternatives in San Diego at this time of year.

This hotel is a great plcae to stay! The hotel is located right next to the water. We actually sat there and watched the sting rays next to the rocks. My children loved it.The rooms are very clean and quiet. They had a concert going on Saturday night and we could sit out on our patio and listen to it,but once we walked into the room we heard nothing. It was great. Each room has a small patio where you can sit and enjoy the ocean breeze. The patio is covered with lush greenery.I felt like I was in a tropical forest.I would reccomend this place to anyone that is plannng a trip to San Diego.

I booked our 7 night stay through the zoo website. By adding on zoo passes, the average nightly rate was less then if we hadn't; so basically, the zoo paid us to stay here.
I had called prior to our trip and expressed concerns about possible concert noise and our children being able to go to sleep. They had made note of that and when we checked in, they upgraded us free to a garden side upper suite (traditional room is all the zoo package reserved) - rm 431. It worked perfect for us with its good location and kitchen (and the kids were happy they didn't have to share a bed). The room was older but was well maintained.
There were concerts there most every night of our stay but they didn't cause any parking or noise issues. The only inconvenience was no access to laundry on the concert nights. There were only 2 washers and 2 dryers for the complex so it got competitive to get one in the morning.
The staff was very helpful in directing us where to charter a sailboat and find good kid friendy dining.
The we enjoyed the swimming pool, ping pong and playing croquet on the lawn.
We would stay here again.

“Humphrey's is the Place to Stay!”

Humphrey's Half Moon Inn & Suites

After making my reservation I spoke to Dawn at the Hotel and she was extremely accomodating to my needs. From the moment I spoke to Dawn I knew that my stay there would be a great one. We arrived to the hotel at 11am and because our room was vacant ready we were able to check right in. I was traveling with my 10 year daughter. We both loved the pool. For two days we lounged at the pool and ordered food and drinks. Room service always delivered our food with a smile on their face and eager to please. Chris at the Front Desk is hard to beat when it comes to service. He was multi-tasking like you wouldn't believe. When it was my turn to speak to him he admitted that they were short handed and working a bit harder then normal. Although very busy, Chris still went out of his way to show us bikes to choose from when we wanted to take bikes out for a ride. As a hotel employee it's great to see staff that know how to give great service and make it look effortless. There were several other encounters with different staff and all of them were pleasant. The housekeeping staff throughout the property always greated us with a smile and hello. Thanks to all the employees for going the extra mile to please your guests.

“Lovely hotel”

Humphrey's Half Moon Inn & Suites

We had a lovely stay at Humphrey's. Very friendly reception staff who upgraded us immediately! Room was big enough for two and two kids, not huge but perfectly OK and clean. Free internet is nice, either wireless in your room or on a computer in reception.

We weren't originally going to go to a concert but booked on the day (Tom Jones). The concert space is terrific - quite small and intimate and lovely surroundings.

The hotel itself is situated a short walk away from various restaurants and fast food places (Subway, Pizza, chinese) and a small grocery shop.

Taxis cost around $15-20 to get to the Zoo or Sea World with plenty waiting to take you back.

The major attraction though was the lovely waterside path that ran for a mile alongside the hotel, great for early morning runs!

It's great. Stay there!
