We recently spent one night at the Villa Heidelberg. We found ourselves without reservations in the summer in Seattle. We prefer to stay in B&B's so another Seattle B&B owner made arrangements for us. There are only about 20 B&B's in all of Seattle so his choices were limited. The house is very old & has a neat history. There is a nice view from the top room of Puget Sound and the Olympic mountains. We stayed in the third floor which is one of only 2 rooms with in room bathrooms. We loved the West Seattle area & the drive to downtown on washington 99 was much faster than the expressway. The bus service is about a block away. West Seattle is a quick easy commute to the airport as well.

Initially we were quoted one rate (110) which i thought was exceptable once I saw the room. Then as we were checking out & in a big hurry to catch a flight the rate was suddenly 65 more. The house has had extensive structural repair but is now becoming very shabby. Our toilet seat was bubbled with peeling paint, the wall paper old, paint peeling in big chunks on the base boards, the TV a 1970 model, the sheets cheap. There was a huge claw bath tub but no shower in our room and it took forever to fill the tub & the water only luke warm. On the web site it says our room would sleep 4. There was a day bed but 4 would be extremely cramped. The expansive porch was nice but littered with old grills. We were initially told breakfast would not be served before 0830. Breakfast was served at 0815 but it was not memorable. I am not a snob but I really do not appreciate breakfast being served by somebody in bare feet.

I recognize that it is costly to keep up an older home & that B&B's are difficult businesses to run. This room would have been ok for a much less expensive price but for a premium fee I expect a little more. My husband & I felt like we were visiting an Aunt's old house and he should get out his tools and pitch in and help out.

I cannot recommend Villa Heidelberg for the prices they charge & I would hope that this great old house would be brightened & repaired.

With limited hotels and B&B's in west Seattle, Villa Heidelberg is a decent option. We stayed two nights in Munich, a large bedroom with private bath, and an increible view of the Sound and Cascade Mountains. Bathroom privacy could be an issue with some couples - there is not a door or wall separating the bath from the bedroom - the toilet is afforded some privacy with a lace screen. The bed was comfortable, but the room warm and stuffy. A request, however, for a fan was immediately tended and the hard ot open window opened somewhat. A large wrap porch encourages sitting and visiting. The Villa is also within walking range of several cute shops and dining. I only have to picky points with the Villa, breakfast was ok, lacking in home baked quality muffins and a quiche thick with potatoes. Also, the juice was served in the original carton. The second picky point was some yelling among the owner and her sons as she told them what chores needed to be done. As a couple who stays frequently at B&B's, we rate this as average, and would stay there again.
