The hotel is comfortable but dated .We took a suite, which was spacious with great views of the Hanoi, excellent choice of television channels and good internet connections.

The club lounge was efficient and plentiful. Excellent views of the city from the Club and small balcony to sit on if you can handle Hanoi’s air pollution. The Vietnamese staff was markedly more competent and service orientated than the foreign staff.

Room service food was fine but mediocre. The hotel car service was excellent and inexpensive. So too was the laundry service. Hotel lifts painfully slow,

This is very much a conference hotel; however the central location would be excellent for sightseeing. Be warned most city maps seemed to be wrong, walking usually meant getting lost. Thankfully cabs were plentiful and cheap.

Stayed at Melia for 4 nights in Swiss Room with Executive Suite Benefits. Great buffett breakfast with evening snacks and drinks. Will definately stay here again. Beautifully decorated large room 2 plasma TV's 2 toilets. The most comfortable bed we had in our trip to Asia. Swimming pool is great after a hot day touring Hanoi. Hotel is in a great location. It is a 10 min walk to the Old Quarter, but without the noise and traffic of the old quarter. Supermarket 10 mins walk away opposite the lake. Many restuarants near by. Cheap laundry service nearby in the backpackers hostels. Great shopping close to the cathederal. 15 mins walk to water puppets

Room tip: Ask for an ungrade - it is worth it

I stayed here for a few nights for my business trip with my colleagues and business partners. I liked the hotel staff hospitality, clean facility and prime location.Adding to that the in-house massage service level is good (not dodgy as one can see in some other hotels). I can tell why government guests and high officials like to stay/use the hotel.
